Pearl Academy of Fashion (PAF), country's leading fashion institute joins hands with North India Section of the Textile Institute (NISTI), Manchester, to organize a two-day International Conference on Sustainability of Textile Fashion Industry Chain: Crop to Shop on November 28 & 29,'08 at Apparel Export Promotion Council, Gurgaon.

An attempt by PAF & NISTI, the initiative aims to address issues pertaining to the Textile sector and to increase awareness about the understanding of the importance of sustainability in India. It will also provide a networking platform to the industry personnels who contributes to the growth & development of the textile industry. The international conference is subject to provide a general overview on Design Interventions & sustainability, Sustainable Production Processes, Technologies & Ethical Issues, Sustainable Consumption and Retail, the Policies and about environment. The discussion will witness over 20 eminent National & International professionals from the textile industry participating as the guest speakers.

"Sustainability has emerged as a basic concern In India in the recent times. The textile industry is generating more than a trillion dollars revenue per annum globally, with the consumption being concentrated in the developed countries & the production is concentrated in the developing countries. Thus the environmental impacts are globally distributed. This is an opportune time for the conference like this to share experiences on a global platform", shared Dr. SK Chaudhuri, Director, Australian Wool Innovation & former Chairman, NISTI, who is also participating as the guest speaker at the International conference.

The event provides a forum for professionals from research and industry to interact closely with experts and to participate in discussions in order to exchange ideas and information.

Addressing the media, Dr. Vinod Shanbag, Academic-Advisor, PAF and Head of Pearl Centre for Advanced Research & Development said, "The International conference is a joint effort by PAF & NISTI to address the issue of sustainability in the textile industry globally. As a developing country with an aspiring consumption drive and vast untapped markets, the Indian scenario appears largely divorced from these new sensitivity to practice. The conference aims to provoke Indian and regional academic & business audiences to the emerging thought and to align them with this new trend else where in this world. I am sure we will succeed in our aim and will continue to take such initiatives for the betterment of the industry."

Students of Pearl Academy of Fashion will be presenting a fashion show titled "Intermezzo" based on the theme sustainability & circus, at the end of day one of the International conference on November 28, '08.
