Mezocore Technologies Wins 2006 Pierre Peladeau Award for Best Start-Up Company

Mezocore Technologies, co-founded by Dr Rahul Shetty, was awarded the Second 30 K Pierre Peladeau Bursary for the best project submitted to the jury, for the year 2006 on May 10 in Montreal, Canada. The prize was awarded by Erik Peladeau, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Quebecor Inc, Canada.

Mezocore™ Technologies is a Quebec City, Canada, Biomedical venture that has been developing medical training software that simulates medical and surgical procedures. Designed by Dr.Rahul Shetty, a postdoctoral medical student at University Laval and one of the co-founders of Mezocore™ Technologies.

The training solution kit- involves specialized hardware like a haptic device-which, will help medical students and medical professionals practice on a computer various medical and surgical techniques that are normally performed on patients in a virtual environment. The Solutions package provides simulated training opportunities which are similar to "real life-like” training. The World Health Organization estimates that one in every ten hospital patients suffers form medical mistakes leading onto serious and fatal consequence.38% of medical errors can be prevented through better training and other innovations.

The Pierre Peladeau Bursaries were created in 1998 to promote entrepreneurship and support business start-ups by Quebec University Students. Each year, bursaries are awarded to the three best projects submitted to the jury from students at all Quebec Universities. Since their creation, the Pierre Peladeau Bursaries have distributed more than half a million dollars to 24 recipients helping them start their business, carry out their business plans and develop their products and markets.Quebecor Inc is a communications company with operations in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia, India.

Mezocore™ Technologies won the first prize in the Medicine department at the 4th Edition of the Ideas Contest, which was organized by the Entrepreneurial Laval Inc., University of Laval in 2005. Rahul Shetty M.D.is a cardiac surgeon from India.
