Castrol Sets the Stage for Indian Cricketers

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India , 2006-08-26

An election is on all over India. From small towns and metropolitan cities, India’s International cricketers are voting for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year.

The electorate consists of just 182 cricketers who have represented India atleast in one test match or five One-Day Internationals. They will elect the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year from the following five cricketers whose performances have been outstanding during the period 1st October ’04 to 31st December ’05.

-- Rahul Dravid
-- Virender Sehwag
-- Sachin Tendulkar
-- Irfan Pathan
-- Harbhajan Singh

These five cricketers have been shortlisted on the basis of an elaborate points rating system which takes into consideration batting, bowling and fielding performances.

The Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year gets a cheque of Rs 5.00 Lacs and a handsome trophy.

Other Awards which will also be given away at the function will be the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award and Castrol Junior Cricketer of the Year Award. These two awards are selected by a panel of experts and the names of the winners will be announced in Mumbai on 30th August 2006.

-- Best Bowling Performance in Tests
-- Best Batting Performance in ODIs
-- Best Bowling Performance in ODIs
-- Best Fielder of the Year
-- Best Newcomer of the Year

This is the eighth year of the Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence. This year, the Awards will be given away in Mumbai on 4th September 2006.
