PowerLeader Represents Asia-Pacific Region on Contest Panel

The Itanium(R) Solutions Alliance announced on Monday that Chen Qiwang of PowerLeader Science and Technology Co., Ltd. has been chosen to judge contest submissions in the Itanium Solutions Alliance Innovation Contest. Qiwang will join a judging panel of top industry minds focused on recognizing outstanding achievements in Itanium(R) 2-based computing. The panel will judge entries on a number of criteria such as difficulty of challenge, results produced and originality.

Chen Qiwang is the Itanium product manager of PowerLeader Science & Technology Co., Ltd., an Itanium Solutions Alliance Associate Sponsor and member of the Alliance's Asia-Pacific Regional Committee. Qiwang graduated from Southwest Science & Technology University where he majored in automatization. Qiwang has spent many years operating in the Linux community and began working in the HPC industry in 2004. When Qiwang joined PowerLeader in 2006, he was in charge of their Itanium 2-based systems program.

"With so many possibilities in the Itanium architecture landscape, it will be exciting to see, first-hand, the innovative ways that companies around the world are using the architecture to increase their computing capabilities," said Qiwang.

Additional judges joining Qiwang on the panel include Tony DeVarco, corporate alliance manager at Symantec; Renee J. James, vice president and general manager of the Software and Solutions Group for Intel Corporation; Gale Persil, director of product management operations at Computer Associates and Mark K. Smith, managing director for the Gelato Federation.

The Itanium Solutions Alliance Innovation Contest will showcase unique and innovative deployments of Itanium 2-based applications. End users and software developers of Itanium-based solutions are encouraged to enter their solution into the contest in one of three categories. One winner in each category will receive a $50,000 cash prize. Contest entries are due January 31, 2007. The award categories include:

-- Humanitarian Impact: The Humanitarian Impact category awards innovative use of applications running on Itanium 2-based systems where these systems demonstrate a profound impact on humanity through research, social improvements or other humanitarian efforts. Examples include weather prediction, storm monitoring, tsunami model forecasting and genetic and medical research.

-- Enterprise Business Applications: The Enterprise Business category awards the innovative use of applications utilizing the benefits of Intel(R) Itanium(R) 2 architecture to produce either hard business results (such as cost savings and ROI) or soft business impact (including customer satisfaction and new product development).

-- Entrepreneurial: The Entrepreneurial Innovation award is open to all entities, excluding public companies with revenues exceeding $25 million in the last reporting period. The award will recognize enhanced business operations using applications that take full advantage of the Intel Itanium 2 architecture and will reward achievements in areas such as IT consolidation, increased ROI, increased customer satisfaction and new product development.
