IIM Alumni form The Pan- IIM Alumni Association Organize Seminar on 'How To Make IIM A Global Brand' to Discuss Ways and Means through which Education can Open New Vistas and Break Ground

Pan-IIM Alumni Association (Pan-IIM AA), representing the alumni community of all the six IIMs, today organized its inaugural event at the India Habitat Centre, comprising a keynote on 'Innovation in Education' by Kiran Karnik, (an IIMA alumnus) President NASSCOM, and a panel discussion among IIM Directors on 'How to make IIM a Global Brand'.

The Pan-IIM AA has been formed as an umbrella organization, covering alumni of all 6 IIMs, to evolve a platform that would provide strong fraternity among IIM alumni. The Pan-IIM AA is expected to provide a forum for the IIM Alumni to interact and to undertake various activities - both social and professional in nature.

The key objectives of Pan-IIM AA are to engage the intellectual capital, management experience and network of relationships of the alumni community in order to

-- leverage these unique strengths for creative solutions for economic and social issues of wider importance to the nation, including promotion of corporate social responsibility

-- lead management thought on developing corporate and managerial leadership in the emerging paradigms of globalization and the knowledge economy

-- strengthen and sustain the tradition of excellence embodied by brand IIM as well as promote the professional development of its community members

The inaugural session of Pan-IIM AA was marked by the presence of several distinguished IIM alumni who have has contributed to the prestige of Brand IIM through their professional achievements like Nripjit Singh (Noni) Chawla (IIMC), former Managing Director and CEO Max Healthcare, Jerry Rao (IIMA), Chairman MPHASIS, Arun Seth (IIMC), Chairman British Telecom South Asia, Pradeep Gupta (IIMC), CMD Cybermedia Group, Ashok Sapra (IIMB), Managing Director, Telcordia Technologies.

In his keynote address, Kiran Karnik, a staunch supporter of Pan-IIM AA said, “The Pan-IIM AA is uniquely placed to make a big impact on the economic and social fabric of the country, comprising as it does a conglomeration of the top management talent produced in India, many now in positions of leadership in organizations around the world. The aggregation of these capabilities, with an agreed focus, can be a major force for social good. It will also provide a platform for discussing new ideas and creating a powerful independent voice on topical issues and policies, even as it plays a role in furthering Brand IIM globally.”

The panel discussion among the IIM Directors was ably chaired by Nripjit Singh (Noni) Chawla who also gave the closing remarks on the outcome of the deliberations.

When asked about what he hopes the new body will achieve, Noni said “With shared objectives and a common value system, the Pan-IIM Alumni Association has the potential of making a major contribution to the communities and society that the alumni live in. In an increasingly globalizing world, the global network of highly respected managers and young leaders can increase their areas of influence to impact national and regional policies.”

Expressing hope, that Pan-IIM alumni body will be able to leverage their intellectual, financial and political capital to make a much larger contribution to India, Pradeep Gupta, Chairman Cybermedia Group said, “IIM Alumni have demonstrated success in the corporate world; new sectors of the economy; and ushering in a new professional culture. The challenge for us today is to extend this success of individual alumni to the community of managers who share similar values. Coming together of the alumni of all the six IIMs, would provide a forum where we can network amongst ourselves; work towards the enhancement of the standards of the IIMs; and, contribute to India Inc.”

Also present on the occasion, Arun Seth , Chairman BT South India said, "As India globalises rapidly and the IIM alumni spread their wings, the Pan-IIM Alumni Association will be an institution that will galvanise the whole IIM community to realise its true potential by providing a platform for pursuing common issues of management professionals. "

The entire galaxy of distinguished IIM Alumni both indicated their support and encouragement, as this event was essentially an Alumni initiative.
