Wipro Appoints Bill Owens to its Board

Bangalore, Karnataka, India , 2006-02-05

Wipro announced that William Arthur (Bill) Owens, former Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Nortel is joining its Board of Directors. Mr. Owens joins 6 distinguished members of Wipro’s Board of Directors. With his addition, six of the seven directors of Wipro will be independent directors.

Mr. Owens was Chief Executive Officer and Vice Chairman of Nortel, till November 2005. Under his leadership, Nortel was re-established as a strong, stable, ethical fortune 500 company growing strongly and on the path to reestablish leadership in the telecommunications and enterprise IT global marketplace.

Prior to joining Nortel in 2004, Owens was Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Teledesic LLC and before that was the President, Chief Operating Officer and Vice Chairman of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), the United States’ largest employee-owned high-technology company.

Mr. Owens is a recipient of many awards and recognitions and has founded two technology companies. He is on the board of several companies including Daimler Chrysler AG, Polycom, and AEA Investors LLC. Mr. Owens has also served as an admiral in the US Navy and was the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (the second highest rank in the US armed forces). He is a member of several philanthropic boards including the Carnegie Foundation, Brookings Institution and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Mr. Owens is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Mr. Owens is an MBA (Hon.) from George Washington University, a B.S. in Mathematics from the U.S. Naval Academy and an M.A. in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University. He has also written over 50 articles and published books including “High Seas” and “Lifting the Fog of War”.

Mr. Owens appointment will be effective July 1, 2006.
