he country�s largest carmaker Maruti Udyog launched its luxury compact car Swift last month on the hope of giving itself a dramatic makeover. And if the brand�s pricing is any indication, Maruti will also be looking to give the competition a good run for its money.
The introductory price for Swift was Rs 3.87 lakh for a basic version in Delhi, Rs 4.05 lakh for the medium and Rs 4.85 lakh for the top-end (the prices have been revised upwards since then). Hyundai Motor retaliated with the launch of three new variants of its B-segment car Santro on the same day. While speculation was rife that Hyundai will revise prices of the Getz (which was launched in September 2004), it looks like the company has decided to hold its horses... at least for the time being.... more
