Bad is good

he number of people visiting news websites soared in the aftermath of the London bomb attacks on July 7, with the BBC, Sky News and the Guardian among the most popular destinations. News websites accounted for 5.6 per cent of all online traffic that day, up nearly 50 per cent from the previous day. BBC News was the most visited site, while the Guardian was the most popular newspaper website in terms of page impressions. BBC News accounted for 28.6 per cent of all news page impressions in the UK on that day. Sky News was in third place with 3.8 per cent, and Guardian Unlimited fifth with 2.4 per cent. Sky News saw one of the dramatic rises in traffic, rising more than 300 places in the overall web rankings to become the 62nd most visited website.

News of the bombings spread across the world on the internet within minutes of the first blast on a Circle Line train between Aldgate East and Liverpool Street at 8.51 am in the UK.... more
