ine woes Wines in India still have a long way to go (�Casking in the glory�, The Brand Reporter July 16-31). The fact is that most Indians consume alcohol for the �kick� they get out of it, something that wine doesn�t offer. While an increasing number of young Indians have started experimenting with wine, the drink would still find few takers given its unattractive pricing: good quality wine is expensive and anything that comes cheap tastes so bad that one refrains from buying it. It is, however, good to to know that wine consumption is slowly picking up pace in India.

Niket Mohey Mumbai Home sweet home Your story on the DVD and VCD market in India (�House full�, The Brand Reporter July 16-31) made a good read. That the falling prices of disks have helped the market to grow, was a well-highlighted fact. What, however, you missed out on was stating the positive difference decreasing VCD and DVD player prices are making to the market. Add to that the skyrocketing prices of cinema hall tickets, and there is enough reason to believe that home viewing will soon become the most preferred visual entertainment medium.... more
