Promoting the Great ape

ing Kong, the larger than life star ,has returned. The sequel of King Kong is expected to release in the US later this year. The movie is all set to prove its credentials at the box office with its director having a herd of loyal fans, and special effects which guarantee to make one jump out of the seat. The movie has a $150 million dollar tag attached to it. This tag has been used wisely by Universal Studios to rope in Group A list marketers. The list includes Burger King Corp, Nestle, Kellogg�s, Volkswagen of America, JP Morgan Chase and Toshiba.

The co-marketing programmes start as early as this month and would follow up to the movie which, is scheduled to release on December 14th. In a rare film promotion, New York City will host the launch of King Kong, the PG 13 action adventure, which will star Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. The total estimated promotional value from the partners is $100 million and $30 million is expected to be the studio spending . Universal has linked with Kellogg�s and Nestl� for the kids and teen promotion of the movie, by carrying out the promotion on cereal boxes and candy bars. Burger King, Toshiba, Chase and Volkswagen will follow up the promotion for adults, with a giant size King Kong food menu and new technology products linked to the movie theme. There would be a Kong credit card and outreach through car dealerships and high traffic car shows.... more
