Seeking a share of the pie

hey can't do without it. From management trainees to corporate honchos, they swear by it, drool over its graphics and make neat presentations while in transit. The notebook PC is the brand new rage in India. Taking advantage of this, Samsung India, a late entrant in this business, recently launched a range of high-end notebooks. What is it about the Indian notebook market that has made the players take serious note of it?

Both size and speed, say market analysts. The Indian laptop market is witnessing a 100 per cent growth rate. The computer market is shifting from desktop to laptop owing to substantial price erosion in the latter over the past one year. The major players in the notebook market are HP (with a 35 per cent share), Lenovo (28 per cent), Acer (14 per cent), Dell and Toshiba (8-9 per cent each). Samsung, which entered the Indian notebook market in January 2004, trails with a 2.3 per cent share.... more
