Lightning strikes

etergent bars tend to turn all gooey with use, especially in the monsoon. Going by the TV advertising that has addressed the issue, it is evident that marketers know that housewives find it upsetting. Many years ago, Rin made a virtue of this stickiness, showing a user run her finger over the bar to catch a bit on the tip and exclaim, 'Jaraa sa Rin� - implying that all it took to clean clothes was a bit of (runny) Rin. Generally, however, the advertising for detergent brands has tended to emphasise that the brand lasts longer.

Now Rin has tried to do something about the problem at a product level. To keep the cake from dissolving, Rin is being sold in a special pack that comes with a plastic bag. The plastic mesh keeps water out and also allows the user to hang the bar from a nail. Less water on the soap means it will dissolve that much more slowly. ... more
