ore often than not, divine intervention is sought in times of trouble. This one is a surprise though. Star Plus, which hardly seems to be in need of heavenly help, probably doesn't mind using mythology helping it solve the weekend programming puzzle that the television industry has been trying to demystify. Early this month, the channel launched Sai Baba, a serial that will air on Sundays at 9 pm, just before KBC 2 rolls.

What's a mythological serial doing on prime weekend time? More pertinently, what exactly is Star Plus up to? This, according to the channel, is part of Star's plan to build the 8-11 pm time band. For long, Star has used this slot to re-juggle movies and events. The latest attempt is one of getting steady viewership. Sai Baba is produced and directly by the master of the mythologicals - Ramanand Sagar. The man who started it all with Ramayan, boosting Doordarshan's revenues for quite some time, and followed it up with another mythological, Krishna, is back in action.... more
