Four shopping malls covering over 400,000 square metres have been planned for just the city of Shenzhen, located on the southern coast, near Hong Kong. Shenzhen, with a population of about 10 million, has been designated as a special economic zone (SEZ).
The Central City shopping mall will come up in the heart of the city by the end of the year. It has been proclaimed as 'China's first eco-friendly shopping mall', and will cover a total area of 140,000 square metres of which 7,000 square metres is a grass patch in addition to a 20,000-square metre roof garden.
