Spirited survey

lcohol in China is an intrinsic part of folklore. The ancient Chinese believed that alcohol was a sacred liquid only to be consumed when making sacrifices to the heaven, earth or important ancestors. However, consumers of alcohol in China are shifting from the traditional spirits. According to a Research & Markets survey, 985 traditional Chinese spirit producers are facing �stiff� competition from sophisticated alcoholic drinks like beer and wine.

China produces liquor, beer and wines like yellow wine and fruit wine. Distilled spirits in China include white spirits, among others. These are produced for the local market in large quantities. The most popular is Maotai, a 55 per cent spirit made of wheat and sorghum. ... more
