ccording to a recent report by Nielsen Monitor-Plus, prime time TV ad clutter in America has reached an all-time high. The study, conducted from January to September this year, revealed that ad clutter on prime time cable TV was at an average of 15 minutes, 10 seconds per hour. This has gone up 2 per cent from last year�s figure of 14 minutes, 51 seconds per hour. Ad clutter on broadcast networks during the period was 15 minutes, 47 seconds per hour. This is up by 4 seconds over last year.
Despite the rising ad clutter, more ads are being placed on television, leading to growing dissatisfaction among viewers. In fact, the actual programming time for a one-hour show, is around 40 minutes according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus. ... more
