Zydus Cadila's Sugar Free Natura, which comes in pellets and powder concentrate, is a line extension of the brand Sugar Free. "The difference between Sugar Free and Natura - its new variant - lies in the key ingredient from which sweeteners are made," says Jyoti Shiralee, general manager, marketing, consumer division, Zydus Cadila Healthcare Ltd.
According to her, Sugar Free contains aspartame, a sweetener made from a protein derivative. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar. Natura contains sucralose, a new generation no-calorie sugar substitute, which is derived from sugar through a multi-step manufacturing process. It is 600 times sweeter but without the calories of sugar. "Sugar Free (with aspartame) contains 0.4 calories per pellet, which is equivalent to a teaspoon of sugar.
