study on the in-flight magazine industry carried out by the travel and business media publisher, Ink Publishing, has revealed some interesting results. According to the report, advertisers are set to invest more than US $1 billion (Rs 4,600 crore) in in-flight media to target the growing number of affluent passengers around the world. Global in-flight advertising revenue is expected to grow from US $686 million last year to US $832 million in 2005 to more than a billion US dollars in 2006. This is being spurred by increase in general advertising expenditure and opening of niche markets by point-to-point airlines.
These figures are based on sales of Ink Publishing's own portfolio of in-flight magazines, the largest in the world, along with research conducted by Air Transport Intelligence and the World Advertising Research Center.
The report finds that Middle Eastern and Asian carriers are receiving increasing passenger traffic by around 15 per cent on average, compared to the 9.3 per cent average growth in the Americas, Europe and Africa. ... more
