anadian company FieldTurf, which makes artificial turf, came to India a year ago with ideas about making India a greener place. Based out of Hyderabad, FieldTurf took over a year to get its act together. It now has six distributors in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore and is sharpening its marketing activities. Is the grass business green enough?

"It is a trend that is catching in India - people with fast lifestyles who are looking for convenience. We already have over 100 installations," says Anil Kumar, managing director, FieldTurf, India. FieldTurf can be used for terrace gardens, lawns, indoor putting greens, road medians, traffic islands, hotels and restaurants, office areas and sports fields. It can be used for soccer, hockey, football, rugby or golf. "There are different varieties of grass fibre depending on the specification of the sport," adds Kumar. In India, the focus is more on landscaping, while in the other parts of the world it is used more frequently for the sports field.... more
