tand-up comic shows are yet to make their mark on Indian television, barring a few, such as Movers and Shakers and Carry on Shekhar (both hosted by Shekhar Suman). But recently a talent search like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge (TGILC) has made efforts to encourage stand-up comedians.

In June 2005, Star One launched TGILC where it invited aspiring comedians to participate in a contest with the winner getting his own show. It was a great hit. The 13-episode challenge which ran from June to September 2005 attained a high TVR of 10.2 in its final episode.
