poll by Harris Interactive in the United States indicates that a majority of Americans catch up on news through broadcast media. While 77 per cent of the respondents said they watched local broadcast news, 71 per cent said they watched network broadcast or cable news several times a week or daily. Compared to this, only one in five (20 per cent) U S adults said they listened to satellite news programming or read a national newspaper (18 per cent).
The poll found that age is a major factor in deciding the medium of news. Mature audiences, aged 59 years or older, are most likely to rely on traditional media for news and information, with at least eight in ten saying they watch local broadcast news (88 per cent), watch network broadcast or cable news (88 per cent), or read a local daily newspaper (80 per cent) several times a week or daily. ... more
