Healthier choices

o help health conscious consumers make a more informed choice, consumer products giant Unilever (www.unilever.com) has introduced a product labelling programme called Choices. The initiative will help consumers identify the products that have limited amounts of trans-fats, saturated fats, sodium and sugars.

The company has also developed a Nutrition Enhancement Programme (NEP) based on international dietary guidelines which will be the benchmark for its product featuring the logo. According to Vindi Banga, president - foods of Unilever, "Our research shows that consumers are keen to make healthy choices� Now we are also stepping up our efforts to improve consumer information on pack by means of a front of pack logo designed to work regardless of geography or product category."... more
