ecording studio, Sony BMG Entertainment (www.sonybmg.com), has launched a music channel, supported by ads, in association with Brightcove, a digital video distribution platform. Christened "musicbox video", the channel will allow the entertainment company to push certain videos to affiliated radio and news station websites. The company also plans to set up individual pages, dedicated to artistes, whereby a fan can view multiple videos by the same artiste, in one place. Also, in a unique marketing feature, fans will have the option of pasting the videos, as well as live performances and artiste interviews, on their individual webpages.
Sony BMG, on its own website will have a customised Brightcove player featuring "top videos" and genre-based playlists. The videos will have the option of sharing with a friend and offer RSS syndication feeds as well. The recording studio will be able to share ad revenue with websites that present the content. Brightcove also makes a small cut, for delivering the videos and handling the ad sales. The experiment is a first, not just for Sony BMG, but also for Brightcove, which has so far been involved only with informational, and not entertainment content.... more
