n its inaugural issue, it sold 75,000 copies within a few hours of being launched. Now, in its 20th year, Sananda, the Bengali magazine for women, can boast a readership base of 12.44 lakh (NRS '05; ABC circulation Jul-Dec 2005 1,51,000).

On July 31, the popular women's fortnightly from the Ananda Bazar Patrika stable completed two decades. Most of this journey has been steered by high profile actor/director Aparna Sen, who as editor unabashedly took up the cause for empowering women. While Sen's celebrity image nurtured the growth of Sananda, its strong content which has dealt with social, cultural, political and women oriented issues also contributed to the rise. ... more
