Hyperlinks - our sanction to stray

n an age that celebrates clarity of travel and focus on directions, at a time when roadmaps and compasses are not just flaunted but possessed as necessities, there seems to be an obvious discrepancy between what the zeitgeist suggests and what it allows.

Try and imagine a situation. You want to know more about something, let's say, Open Source Technology. It has been cropping up far too frequently in far too many conversations for you to be closed towards it any more. So, you decide that you absolutely must become an instant expert on the subject. Where do you go? To Google, of course. And you type in the required search string. Let's say 'open source technology+pdf'. And a whole list of links opens up in front of you in 0.99976 seconds.
