f you have been seeing something on television, which looks straight out of The Beatles archives, it is the TVC for MSN Messenger. As if music legend Sir Paul McCartney has reversed time to endorse the instant messaging service of MSN, the commercial uses music and the common human need for affiliation to communicate to viewers the powers of its service.

The ad opens with a scene from a talent competition, in a huge hall where a raucous crowd hails the bands that come on stage. The crowd, clearly dressed for a session of hard rock, heavy metal and grunge, looks all charged up . The first band, Sonic Boom, enthrals the audience with its wild guitaring. The second participant, Frost Bite, featuring Flame, breathes fire, leaving the crowd restless for more while the judges nod their heads in appreciation. ... more
