Geared up for a new role

utomaker Tata Motors unveiled Sumo Victa, the facelifted version of its multi-utility vehicle, Tata Sumo, last month. The company has given the brand a new look while retaining almost all the other specifications, including the engine. Tata Motors has also decided to make a determined bid for the "passenger segment" with the Sumo, "having improved the steering, suspension and manoeuvrability of the car, while keeping the DNA intact". With all this, the company expects a 10-15 per cent growth in the sales of the Sumo over the 28,000 units it sold in the last year.

Launched in 1994, the Sumo - which clocked the fastest 1 lakh sales in the industry after launch - has become synonymous with the attributes of ruggedness, reliability and spaciousness and is favoured by those looking for "low-cost ownership".
