Identity crisis?

hy did Bennett Coleman & Company (BCCL) recently change the name of its matrimonial website from timesmatri.com to simplymarry.com? Two reasons. One, slow acceptance. The second and more important reason was that BCCL realised nearly a year down the line that the site was perceived to be a friendship site. It also didn't help that there were many competitors in the fray - Bharatmatrimony.com , Shaadi.com, and Jeevansathi. com. So what went wrong with the portal and what is the new image all about?

R Sundar, president, Times Business Solutions, clarifies, "The brand, Timesmatri.com, created confusion among consumers. It was often mistaken to be a friendship website because the word matri in it confused visitors who thought it meant maitri, the Hindi word for friendship. It was also found that the original brand clashed with Times Matrimonial, the supplement that comes with The Times of India's Sunday edition."... more
