he Super Bowl (unlike what its name suggests to us) is the American football (or rugby) tournament of the National Football League in America. As per the findings of TNS Media Intelligence, advertising during the Super Bowl games has cumulatively accounted for over 11 hours of commercial time during the past 20 years (1987-2006) representing 221 different advertisers, more than 1,400 commercial announcements and $1.72 billion of network advertising sales. For the 2007 game, CBS, the channel that is broadcasting the games, reportedly fetched over $2.6 million for each 30-second spot. There is, naturally, much hype in the media around the advertisements themselves.
After the games are over, USA TODAY (among others) does a poll on the commercials aired during the games. Top of the USA TODAY polls this year was a Budweiser (Anheuser Busch) ad made by DDB Worldwide. ... more
