ommunity Radio sations (CRS) are making waves. Till now, CRS was restricted to educational institutions, but now even NGOs are pitching in. More so, because in November last year, the government allowed NGOs and community-based groups to set up and run low-powered radio stations.
As of now, there are about 20 CRS' operating in India, run by institutions such as Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Jamia Milia Islamia in Delhi, Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and Annamalai University in Chennai.
