erizon Wireless, an American wireless services provider, has launched a live mobile TV service in association with Qualcomm, a company that designs and distributes CDMA chip-sets. The service, called V Cast Mobile TV will be subscription based and will comprise eight 24-hour channels. Programmes will be sourced from CBS Mobile, ESPN, Fox Mobile, NBC 2Go, MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and other broadcasters that have the technical capabilities to air content on mobile handsets. Some shows featured on the new service will be broadcast live, while others will be recorded and broadcast later. The service will be partially supported by advertising.
This, however, isn't the first of the forays into mobile TV on a large scale. Other players in America include MobiTV, which claims to have nearly two million subscribers. ... more
