A Smooth Flow

ky News will soon tell stories through maps so that readers will be able to visit the places that the story took place in - watch videos, read and hear eyewitness accounts, exactly where and how they occurred.

The technology that allows for these 'flowing narratives' is a simple, clever mashup (digitally mixed things). In the SkyMapping application, as this mashup is called, Google Maps have been mixed with html and code, to allow embedded links, speech bubbles, markings and so on, that can be programmed to tell any story, occurring anywhere. Similar to services created earlier by Amazon and Microsoft, Google recently launched StreetView, which will make this kind of storytelling even more exciting. ... more
