eaving sensational news stories behind, NDTV India has decided to take the big plunge into the fiction space. The channel has launched a drama series called Bombay Lawyers, which is based on legal cases related to corruption, crime, nepotism and other social evils. Well-known actors such as Meeta Vashisht and Murli Sharma will play lawyers in the mini-series written and directed by Satyajit Bhatkal.
Fiction was, hitherto, one of the few genres that news channels did not venture into. But NDTV India's move has changed that and the channel plans to continue exploring the fiction space in future. A very optimistic Dibang, managing editor, NDTV India, says that the show is rooted in Indian reality. "Bombay Lawyers will feature issues and cases that are rampant in Indian society. It will even depict real-life stories in a manner that is neither obscene nor sensational." This, he says, will be on the lines of the famous BBC series, Yes Minister. ... more
