"Delhi�s gastronomes live in a constant state of indecision," says Sourish Bhattacharyya, editor, HT City, in his opening comment in Hindustan Times� (HT) 2004 edition of the HT City Eating Out Guide (EOG). It�s not due to the lack of eating-out joints or watering holes, but the paucity of information that drives them to opt for the safer, tried and tested options.
Little wonder then that HT�s EOG which was launched in 2003, is selling like hot cakes. The company claims that last year three editions of the EOG were sold out in less than three months. "We hope to sell at least 50,000 copies this year," says Anand Bhardwaj, vice-president, marketing, HT. The Times Group also has a guide for foodies, Times Food Guide priced at Rs 100. But in the true HT-TOI combat style, HT brass claims EOG is No 1 in Delhi.
