n an effort to capture a bigger share of the 11-million-tonne edible oil market in India (of this the branded segment makes up only 1.1 million tonne), Bunge Agribusiness India (BAI) has launched a new range of refined edible oils under Dalda. With this, BAI, which is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the US-based $22-billion Bunge Ltd, expects to double its sales in India in the next three years. From 60,000-65,000 tonne currently, BAI wants to touch 1-1.5 lakh tonne every year.
Says Shvetal Vakil, vice-president, BAI, "The edible oil market in India is highly fragmented and local and regional players dominate their respective markets. By extending the Dalda brand into various edible oil categories we will be able to tilt consumption in our favour."
