magine getting stuck in rush hour traffic, while the final overs are being bowled in a nail-biting India-Pakistan cricket final. What if someone gave you a blow-by-blow account of the cliffhanger? Mobile service operator Hutch promised just that and much more when it launched its multi-channel TV-on-mobile service, Hutch TV, in Mumbai recently. "The service delivers television content from 13 different TV channels, ranging from news and current affairs to business, sports, fashion, travel and entertainment," Hutch COO Harit Nagpal said in a note released by the company.

With this, Hutch became the first Indian operator to launch mobile television service, which is accessible over its EDGE-enabled network. (For the uninitiated, EDGE stands for enhanced data rate for global evolution, which is a high-end technology that facilitates a range of services at great speed.) The channels that will be covered include CNBC TV18, AXN, NDTV India, NDTV 24x7, Discovery, SET, ZEE TV, ETV, Animax, Raj TV and Trendz, among others. Mobile users will be able to view clips of select programmes over their General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) handsets in the form of Nokia 6230 and Nokia 3220. ... more
