Playing the name game

endulkar, Sachin. Last name, first name. Upscale restaurant, sports caf�. At last we know why we have a first name and a last name. India�s star batsman has just launched Sachin�s, a sports caf�, in Mulund, a Mumbai suburb. This follows Tendulkar�s, which was opened about two years ago near the Gateway of India in the same city.

Tendulkar�s, an up-scale eating joint, was the first venture of Gourmet Restaurant Pvt Ltd, a 51:49 per cent joint venture between the Tendulkars and Sanjay Narang�s Mars Restaurant Pvt Ltd. respectively. With Sachin�s it has gone mass. Talking about the difference between the two, Samir Kukreja, chief operating officer, Mars Restaurant, said, "Tendulkar�s is a world-class signature restaurant, while Sachin�s is a sports caf� that is a fast food joint more on the value-for-money lines. The investment in Sachin�s is in the region of Rs 2 crore, while Tendulkar�s was relatively more expensive and needed about Rs 2.5 crore."
