Sex to boost ratings

osses at music channel VH1 are turning to sex to boost ratings in the cut-throat music market in the UK. In a move that would be unthinkable even in the States, VH1 has launched an advertising campaign offering a mock apology for airing "nine and a half nights of sex" in its peak time schedules from December. A season of programming will feature "taboo breaking" music videos from the eighties and nineties and documentaries about celebrities who bared all for Playboy, including Cindy Crawford and Latoya Jackson.

Its newspaper advertising campaign is headlined "Very Sorry" and warns viewers of the sexual content and "so apologises in advance to viewers who may be offended by things such as people �doing it�, nudey bits or lewd cavorting in leg warmers and other eighties paraphernalia". It ends by saying viewers who are offended by such content should "do something else, like knitting". ... more
