ith an aim to tap the non cable and satellite households in India, the Rs 6,500-crore LG Electronics has introduced Digi Direct TV, India�s first DTH-ready television model. LG, the leader in the CTV market with a 25 per cent share, sees this is a tremendous opportunity to establish a bigger presence in the rural and semi-urban markets. KR Kim, managing director LG Electronics India, and president, South West Asia, says, "As we steadily move towards the era of convergence, there will be no demarcation between IT, consumer durables and mobile phones."

The Digi Direct TV set would be able to receive all free-to-air channels including 17 DD channels and 12 radio channels. Although the company has introduced two models in 21-inch and 29-inch flat, it plans to enter the conventional segment by introducing 20-inch and 21-inch models in March 2005. The 21-inch and 29-inch TV sets cost Rs 13,000 and Rs 23,000, about Rs 2,500 more than its regular TV sets in the same size. ... more
