Titan what?

hat is Titan? In Greek mythology, the 12 children of Gaia and Uranus. In the English language, ��a person or thing of very great strength, intellect, or importance��. In Indian business, the largest manufacturer of watches with a 65 per cent share in the organised market. In astronomy, the largest moon of Saturn and the second largest moon in the solar system. The last Titan has been in the news a lot lately. There is sudden rush of information on the atmosphere of Saturn�s moon. Can this change the perception of the 18-year old watches brand?


Bijou Kurien, chief operating officer, watches, Titan Industries, doubts it. He divides the evolution of the brand into three phases. ��The first phase began from 1987 when Titan came into the market and lasted till 1992-93. The market then was dominated by mechanical watches and HMT. Our task was to bring a paradigm shift from mechanical to quartz and also towards higher priced watches. Back then the brand was positioned as a �trusted, reliable brand from the house of Tata,�� he says.
