No respite from fun

ational Geographic is not a channel one would associate with kids. But to harness this very important audience base, the channel launched Nat Geo Junior, a programming band exclusively for children, beginning January 24. The block would offer the programming genres more popular among kids - from science and animation to adventure and exploration - in a one-hour block every weekday (from 4.00 pm to 5.00 pm) and on weekends in a two-hour block (10.00 am to 12 noon).


Nat Geo Junior has been inspired by the performance of the show, Mission Mars, that was aired on National Geographic in early 2004. A school contest had been organised based on the series, wherein the channel received over a lakh-and-a-half entries from all over India. Says Dilshad Master, senior vice-president, programming, National Geographic Channel (NGC), "With Nat Geo Junior, NGC aims to increase its reach to new viewers, such as the pre-teens, for an early induction into the brand."
