n an all-cash deal of Rs 143 crore, Dabur India has acquired controlling stakes in three Balsara Group companies - a 99.4 per cent stake in Balsara Hygiene Products, 100 per cent in Balsara Home Products and 97.9 per cent in Besta Cosmetics.
The acquisition is in keeping with Dabur�s strategy of inorganic growth. About 56 per cent of Balsara�s revenues come from oral care products, while household products comprise 44 per cent. With its image as a herbal specialist, Balsara�s herbal oralcare range provides a good strategic fit, says Dabur, and strengthens Dabur�s position in oral care. Till recently, Dabur owned three oralcare brands - Dabur Lal Dant Manjan, Dabur Red toothpaste and Binaca toothbrush acquired from Reckitt Benckiser in 1996, which together contributed Rs 200 crore to its total turnover of Rs 1,300 crore in 2003-04.
