Hero Honda Motors, the world�s No 1 two-wheeler company, now offers its customers the "sarva guna sampanna bike". It has launched an upgraded version of its best selling bike, Splendor Plus. The Super Splendor, which looks similar to its legendary predecessor, packs in more power. With a 125-cc quantum core engine developed by Honda Motors, Japan, it promises to add an extra 5 km to the mileage. Priced slightly higher than even some of the 135-cc motorcycles, Super Splendor wears a tag of Rs 42,231. For company, it has Bajaj Discover, Yamaha Fazer, LML Freedom and TVS Victor in the 125-cc category.
"The main reason for the launch," says Brijmohan Lall, chairman, Hero Honda, "was to offer better fuel efficiency, which is desired by a majority of our customers. Some manufacturers get lost between fuel efficiency and power in the deluxe category, but we were sure of delivering both. It was also time to upgrade the Splendor." The launch does not mean that the original Splendor (that is, Splendor Plus) will be phased out; together with Passion it accounts for about 1.5 lakh units in sales per month and the two are clearly the cash cows for the company.
