On a new turf

he date is March 27. On that day Channel 7, the 24-hour Hindi news channel from the Kanpur-based Jagran group, will beam into 20 million households across India. In an already cluttered space of news channels, Channel 7 aims to create an impact with its "differentiated positioning and better content offering".
Says Siddharth Gupta, director, Jagran TV, "The foundation of the channel is innovation and the dire need to be different. Targeted at 15-plus audiences in SEC A, B and C, Channel 7 is packaged as an aspirational product. It will be upmarket but still retain its Indianness." The group is not skimping on the investment either; it has already invested Rs 70 crore to put the package together.
To begin with, the group roped in the services of Australia-based broadcast design outfit Bruce Dunlop Associates to create the identity for its channel in terms of logos, tickers and the whole colour scheme. The theme music has been scored by Indipop band, Indian Ocean, while the attires for the anchors have been designed by popular fashion designers.... more
