The long and short of it

apunzel had magnificent long hair, fine as spun gold. That had to be a fairy tale. For ask any woman, without a dash of magic hers would have been a nightmare!
In the real world, managing hair - long, short, straight or frizzy - has never been easy. For those in distress, and for those not satisfied with their hair oils and shampoos, there is a new category of products to seek solace in - that of post-wash hair potions.
Marico Industries, which entered the market last year, puts the value of the post-wash hair conditioner market at around Rs 25 crore. This is really small when compared to the hair oil market in India, which stands at Rs 900 crore or the shampoo market, which is valued at Rs 1,200 crore. But then it�s a new category and the growth rate is high, at around 110 per cent (as would be expected of a new category). Marico�s Silk-n-Shine owns 30 per cent of the market, according to industry estimates, while the lion�s share belongs to Paras Pharmaceuticals� Livon (Paras� other brand Numis has not been taken into account as it was launched hardly five months back).... more
