odak India is busy with a two-pronged strategy. Straddling both the ends of the imaging market, the company is spearheading the Indian digital camera market and trying to capture more of the entry-level analog camera market, which it has come to dominate for half a decade now.
According to market research agency IDC India, the digital still camera market in India grew 114 per cent year-on-year to 1.5 lakh units in 2004. With the momentum expected to continue, the Indian digital still camera market is expected to clock sales of Rs 367 crore in 2005. That�s not the complete picture though. Digital cameras are popular in the urban markets. Elsewhere in India, interest in photography - whether digital or otherwise - is yet to catch on.
