t�s a fairly common phenomenon: when retail chains get large enough, they introduce private labels. Not only do private labels help chains strengthen consumer loyalty, they also improve margins in categories in which they are present. Clearly the reasons that prompted Sabka Bazaar, Home Store India�s food and grocery chain that operates in Delhi and the NCR, to launch an eponymous private brand.

The new range has been launched keeping the Indian palate in mind, says the company. It plans to have at least 20 products under its private label initially. The products available under the label currently include atta, rice, pulses, spices and sugar. Tea, namkeens, tissue paper and stationery will be introduced soon. According to Sabka Bazaar, "the range has been specially designed to provide value for money and suit the day-to-day needs of customers".... more
